Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother opened Fairfield Halls on Friday 2 November 1962.

The inaugural concert in the Concert Hall was performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Sir Malcolm Sargent, with renowned soloist Yehudi Menuhin also performing. The Ashcroft Theatre was opened on 5 November 1962 by Croydon-born Dame Peggy Ashcroft.

Since its inception in 1962, Fairfield Halls has been a major venue for live music, plays, musicals, stand-up comedy and classical music, as well as community events. The concert hall within the Fairfield Halls has regularly been used for BBC television, radio and orchestral recordings.

Fairfield Halls is located on Park Lane, which is a short five minutes walk from East Croydon Station. Croydon is widely regarded as one of the best connected locations in the south, with regular fast connections from the South Coast and Central London. There is a large underground car park on site (fees apply)
